ROLE / 01
Forward-Deployed Engineer
Work directly with clients to define requirements, build software, and deploy it.
You work with business owners and the people using the software. You assess existing systems, explain the technical options, and agree on the requirements. You also develop, test, and deploy the application and investigate problems after launch.
Apply for this role →Responsibilities
- Lead discovery alongside an operations or product partner. Observe the workflow, identify constraints, and agree on what a successful first release should accomplish.
- Review existing applications and AI-generated prototypes. Explain what to keep, repair, or replace, with a clear account of the tradeoffs.
- Build across APIs, data, interfaces, and integrations. Work through authentication, permissions, error handling, and the less obvious paths a real user will take.
- Connect customer systems with respect for their access policies, data, vendor limits, and deployment requirements.
- Demonstrate working software, communicate changes to scope early, and carry the project through testing, launch, documentation, and handoff.
Experience we’re looking for
- A record of taking applications from an ambiguous brief into production and supporting them once people rely on them.
- The ability to debug across a stack, read unfamiliar code, and make progress without a perfectly prepared backlog.
- Clear written and spoken communication. You can explain a technical decision to an owner and discuss its implementation with another senior engineer.
- Good judgment about when to build custom software, use an existing service, or simplify the workflow.
Expected result
The application meets the agreed requirements. The client understands how to operate it, and another engineer can continue the work using the code and documentation you provide.
